Lipophilic Calix[4]arene Ester and Amide Derivatives as Neutral Carriers for Sodium Ion-Selective Electrodes

Abstract
Lipophilic calix[4]arenes bearing ester and amide linkages were synthesized and tested for their usefulness as neutral carriers of Na+-selective electrodes. The resulted poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrodes based on the calixarene derivatives were found to be highly selective for Na+.
