Structural Studies on a Glucose Containing Polysaccharide Obtained from Micrococcus Lysodeikticus Cell Walls I

Abstract
The present paper describes the isolation of a glucose containing polysaccharide from the cell walls of Micrococcus lysodeikticus by lysozyme [EC 3.2.1.17] digestion followed by ECTEOLA-cellulose chromatography, acetylation, diborane reduction and deacetylation. The results of periodate oxidation of the polysaccharide indicate that the N-acetylmannosaminuronic acid residues in the original polysaccharide are linked through their 4-positions provided that the residues are situated at the internal position of the polysaccharide chain.
