Abstract
A mixture of the intermediates of vitamin B1 was found to replace the vitamin in the growth of Phycomyces. Molecularly equivalent quantities of the intermediates were as effective as vit. B1. Neither intermediate alone was effective. Pimelic acid or ethylene chlorhydrin would not replace vit. B1. Nucleic acid or its acid hydrolysate would not replace the vitamin pyrimidine. Various thiazoles or other S compounds did not replace the vitamin thiazole. Keywords
