Abstract
This review with 110 references includes discussion of receptors (initiation of impulses, the neuromuscular spindle, group III muscle receptors, "specificity" of receptors, vibration, touch, and tension receptors), synaptic transmission, ascending pathways (spinocerebellar pathways, ascending pathways destined for medullary, midbrain and thalmic regions), influence of synaptic relays upon signals from peripheral receptors, and higher suprasegmental projections (the thalamus, the cerebral projection of somatic receptors).
