Novel S–N ring contractions using dithiadiazoles; the synthesis and X-ray crystal structures of [PhCNSSN][S3N2]Cl and [(PhCNSSN)2Cl][S3N3]

Abstract

When 4-phenyl-1,2,3,5-dithiadiazole dimer (Ph[graphic omitted])₂ dehalogenates cyclotetrathiatriazenium chloride, [S₄N₃]Cl, and cyclopentathiazenium chloride, [S₅N₅], in acetonitrile, novel ring contractions occur to give the title compounds (1) and (2).
