SUBMERGED CULTURE OF MAMMALIAN CELLS: THE FIVE LITER FERMENTOR,

Abstract
A variety of conditions is described under which the growth of "L" cells has been attained in a 5-1 fermentor which is a prototype of the antibiotic fermentors. A thorough evaluation of these conditions is contemplated. The growth exhibited in this type of equipment establishes the feasibility of growing mammalian cells on a large scale in submerged culture.
