Optimum pulse length of a high-power SMM laser for Tokamak ion temperature measurement

Abstract
In spite of vigorous efforts at various institutions for obtaining long pulse (>or=1 mu s) SMM laser at high power (>or=1 MW) for Tokamak ion temperature measurement, it is shown, by using a rate equation model, that an optimum pulse length at such power is around 200 approximately 300 ns, based on the evaluation of the volume-requirement for a high-power, long pulse SMM laser.
