Abstract
Ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen transfer from (
S
)-α-deuterio-α-phenylethanol [(
S
)-1] to acetophenone with catalyst 3 occurs with retention of deuterium at the α-carbon of the alcohol product whereas H/D scrambling occurs with catalyst 2.
