A study was conducted of 52 patients with sputum positive for Mycobacterium tuberculosis to . determine whether there was any unnecessary delay in diagnosing the disease. The results revealed that 19 of the cases (37%) might have been diagnosed from 2 to 24 months earlier if the medical agency had been more alert to the possibility of tuberculous infection.
