Alkaloids of Schelhammera pedunculata (Liliaceae). I. Isolation of the alkaloids and the structures of the homoerythrina alkaloids schelhammerine and schelhammeridine

Abstract
The structures of schelhammerine (VIIIa) and schelhammeridine (IX), two major alkaloids from Schelhammera pedunculata F. Muell., have been established. They are the first described homoerythrina alkaloids, and their relationship to other alkaloids of the family Liliaceae is discussed. A detailed study has been made of the 100-MHz N.M.R. and mass spectra of schelhammerine and schelhammeridine, and the isolation of a number of other alkaloids from S. pedunculata is described.
