Abstract
The economic effects of Haematobia irritans (L.) on beef cattle as demonstrated by calf weaning weights were determined on Nebraska sandhill range cattle. Horn fly control ( 97% ) was achieved by forced use of dust bags (June 1 to Oct. 30). The average steer calf weaning weight from cows using dust bags was 386.66 lb as opposed to 373.74 lb for calves from the cows with no fly control. The 12.92 lb difference was significant at the 0.05 level of probability (T test).
