COR PULMONALE WITH BILATERAL ANEURYSMS OF THE PULMONARY ARTERY, INTERVENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECT, PATENT DUCTUS ARTERIOSUS AND TERMINAL AYERZA'S SYNDROME

Abstract

A case of congenial heart disease in which a patent interventricular septum and a patent ductus arteriosus are described. These arterio-venous shunts did not impair the functional capacity of the heart until the patient reached the 44th yr. of life. Six wks. after cyanosis and dyspnea appeared the patient died in heart failure. Severe arteriosclerosis of the pulmonary artery and its branches was found, and extra-pulmonary aneurysm of the right and left pulmonary artery. Thrombi in the pulmonary artery and its branches impaired the circulation to such an extent that reversal of the blood flow through the two shunts occurred terminally.
