Competition and the Structure of Granivore Communities

Abstract

In arid lands, seeds are a major source of food for animals. Several kinds of rodents, birds, ants, and other insects often coexist locally and share seed resources. Removal experiments and geographic comparisons provide independent and convergent evidence that competition among these granivores influences their organization into communities.
