Abstract
It is shown in detail how the magnetoelectric effect depends quadratically on the spin‐orbit interaction. The effect is discussed in Cr2O3 using the spin Hamiltonian for the cases of an applied field parallel and perpendicular to the crystalline c axis.Keywords
