Abstract
The data of Cumming and colleagues (Oct. 5 issue)* do not reflect blood donations in the metropolitan areas of New York City, San Francisco, Houston, or Miami, although this is not stated in their report. To what extent does the absence of information from these areas with a relatively high seroprevalence of human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 (HIV-1) (and in which approximately 11 percent of the U.S. population reside) influence the results reported?
