Abstract
High‐power cw operation of a carbon monoxide laser at room temperature (20 °C) has been achieved by introducing mercury vapor into the discharge. In the initial experiments, a cw output power of 1.4 W corresponding to an efficiency of 1.8 % was obtained with a nonoptimized cavity.Keywords
