Molecular Motions in CCl4: Light Scattering and Infrared Absorption

Abstract
The depolarized Rayleigh spectrum of liquid carbon tetrachloride is compared with the experimental dielectric and far‐infrared absorption spectra of Garg et al. It is argued that the high frequency part of the infrared spectrum is due to binary collisions as is the corresponding region of the light scattering spectrum. It is shown that the difference in the spectra is connected with correlations between successive collisions.
