Abstract
The principles of active magnetic screening and the target field approach have been applied to the situation where the field of interest is orthogonal to the coil axis (transverse field geometry). The resulting mathematical expressions allow the design of low inductance, high homogeneity, screened gradient coils. A complete screened gradient coil set has been designed and constructed. This coil set has been used to implement NMR imaging schemes requiring rapidly switched magnetic field gradients. Keywords
