A replication of facilitation of concept formation through mediated generalization.

Abstract
100 undergraduate Ss learned 1 of 2 paired-associate lists of 12 pairs and were then presented with a list of 12 nouns and were instructed to discover into what 3 groups the nouns could be divided and what adjective could describe each group. The paired-associate lists were designed by a method based on mediated generalization to facilitate a given concept in the concept formation list. All results were in the direction of the predicted facilitation; all but 1 were statistically significant beyond the .01 level. It was concluded that the replication was successful.
