Keratinophilic fungi from Queensland—I. Isolations from animal hair and scales

Abstract

Hair or scale samples from 279 animals, including rodents, rabbits, marsupials, bats, reptiles and a monotreme, were examined for the presence of keratinophilic fungi. Isolations were made from 147 (52.7%) of the samples. The main genera recorded included Arthroderma, Chrysosporium, Microsporum (or Nannizzia) and Trichophyton. Haar- oder Schuppenproben von 279 Tieren, mit Einschluβ von Nagetieren, Kaninchen, Beuteltieren, Fledermäusen, Reptilen, und ein Kloakentier, wurden untersucht. Keratinophile Pilze wurden von 52,7 Prozent der Proben isoliert. Die Hauptgattungen waren Arthroderma, Chrysosporium, Microsporum (oder Nannizzia), und Trichophyton.
