Anthropometric Differences Between Black and White Preschool Children

Abstract

Sometime during the first two years of life, black children become bigger than white children (both in height and weight). Although the differences on an individual basis are not of sufficient magnitude to warrant separate charts based on race or skin color for clinical use, the person who is going to use measures of physical growth to evaluate his population for research purposes must continue to stratify his study population using variables of age, sex, and race.
