Abstract
Equations are derived that give the electronic tuning range of solid-state microwave oscillators in terms of the Q factor of the tuning device and the available power output. For currently available varactors the tuning range is severely limited by the Q factor but some exchange of power output for the tuning range is possible. It is shown that series tuning is superior to shunt tuning. Keywords
