Abstract
The influence of cortisone and hydrocortisone on the action of desoxycorticosterone and aldosterone on sodium and potassium excretion was investigated in adrenalectomized rats. The results showed that with increasing doses of cortisone and hydrocortisone an antagonistic action to the sodium retaining effect of desoxycorticosterone and aldosterone occurred. 9α-fiuoro-16a:-hydroxy-Δ1- hydrocortisone, similarly, had a marked antagonistic action at much lower dose levels. The steroids cortisone, hydrocortisone, 9α-fluoro-16α-hydroxy-Δ1- hydrocortisone, and the steroids desoxycorticosterone and aldosterone, each facilitated potassium excretion in adrenalectomized rats; the simultaneous administration of any one of the former with either of the latter produced an increased effect on potassium excretion.
