The effect of neighbours on the hyperfine field will be discussed in magnetically ordered, mostly iron based insulators, semiconductors, alloys and metallic glasses. It will be show that the value and the temperature dependence of the hyperfine field offer complementary information on the local and nonlocal magnetic interactions
