Abstract
Recovery from vigorous exercise of short duration is extremely rapid especially in the 10 min. immediately after the exercise. It is impossible, however, to arrive at any average figure which adequately represents the percentage recovery at any time after the end of exercise, because the rate of recovery varies somewhat with the subject and with the severity and duration of the exercise. It is therefore inadvisable, in determining total recovery O after exercise, to measure the amount used during a period of incomplete recovery and to apply a correction. An increase of the basal O consumption which persists beyond the recovery period is observed after exercise, which the author attributes to an elevation of basal metabolism.
