Interaction of a Fluxon with a Local Inhomogeneity in a Long Josephson Junction

Abstract
We present results of the study of adiabatic and radiative effects accompanying collision of a fluxon with a localized defect which is a combination of a micro-short or micro-resistor with a dissipative inhomogeneity. Threshold values of a bias current which allow capture of a fluxon by the defect in a damped dc driven junction are found for various practically important cases. We also calculate the energy emitted by a fluxon in the form of Swihart waves, and we demonstrate that a Josephson microwave generator operating on an array of localized dissipative defects must be more effective than usual one employing micro-shorts.
