Abstract
Observations have shown that the Ashbel-Seligman reagents for carbonyl compounds stain the same structures revealed by Schiff's Ieucofuchsin after analogous procedures. These observations suggest that carbonyl groups are the responsive configurations in the group of methods utilizing Schiff's reagents for demonstrating various lipids, carbohydrates and nucleoprotein. Although qualitatively similar results are obtained with the two procedures, the intensity of staining varies with the two mediods. No explanation for this differential sensitivity is known at present. Keywords
