New Study Shows Improvement in Fitness Levels: A Survey and Comparison of Youth Fitness 1958-1965

Abstract
The current state of physical fitness of United States public school children, grades 5 through 12, was the subject of an important study conducted by Paul A. Hunsicker and Guy G. Reiff and supported by the Cooperative Research Program of the U.S. Office of Education. Using the AAHPER Youth Fitness Test as the basis of comparison, the study investigated the changes in physical fitness levels. New national norms were established from the data collected during the 1964-65 school year. These revised percentile tables have been published by the AAHPER in its 1965 edition of the Youth Fitness Test Manual (available at $1.00 per copy from NEA Publications-Sales, 1201 Sixteenth St., N.W., Washington, D. C. 20036). The information presented on these pages is from the summary statement prepared by Hunsicker and Reiff.
