Abstract
Methyl [beta]-D-galactopyranoside, protected at C4 and C6 by benzylidene groups, was oxidized by chromium trioxide. Two products predominated in the oxidation mixture after removal of the benzylidene groups. They were identified as methyl [beta]-2-oxo-galactoside and methyl [beta]-3-oxo-galactoside.Keywords
