Stimulation of Bacterial Growth Rate by Methyl Germanic Oxide

Abstract
The logarithmic growth rate of many, bacteria in nutrient broth is stimulated by 0.01 [image] methyl germanic oxide. Growth rate constants during the logarithmic phase indicated an average stimulation of 372%. The areas under the growth curves up to the point of maximum numbers in medium containing Ge were greater than those of controls for the same length of time. Comparison of the areas of experimental and control cultures gave these ratios of stimulation: Escherichia coli 1.65, Aerobacter aerogenes 2.08, Eberthella typhosa 1.42.
