Abstract
A high negative correlation (coefficient = -0.82 [plus or minus] 0.051) was found between blood lactic acid and urinary uric acid in 7 schizophrenic subjects following ingestion of 2.5 m-eq. of lactic acid/kg. body wt. A moderate correlation (-0.42 [plus or minus] 0.101) was also found in 25 fasting and resting subjects. These correlations and the increase in blood lactate observed during uric acid retention following ingestion of benzoate are considered evidence of a close association of the blood lactic acid level to uric acid excretion by the kidney. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
