HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS NOT THE ETIOLOGIC AGENT OF RECURRENT STOMATITIS

Abstract
The virus of herpes simplex is not the usual etiologic agent of recurrent aphthous or ulcerative stomatitis. In reported cases in which the herpes virus has been recovered from the mouths of individuals suffering from recurrent stomatitis or the titer of antibodies has risen in the blood serum following infection, it seems probable that these were chance findings which bore no relation to the etiology of the disease.
