THE SERUM PROTEIN PATTERN IN DISORDERS OF THYROID FUNCTION

Abstract
The serum protein pattern of 24 thyrotoxic and 7 hypothyroid patients was determined by paper electrophoresis. In thyrotoxicosis albumin (A) was low and [beta] - and [gamma] -globulin (G) high. During treatment, A and [beta]-G increased while [gamma] -G decreased. Prothrombin during this period increased. In hypothyroidism, A was low and [gamma] -G high. During treatment, there was a decrease in A and an increase in [alpha]2-G. The abnormal protein pattern remained for a long time, even when a clinically euthyroid state was obtained.
