Ureteral Electromyography

Abstract
Since but little information is available concerning electromyography of the ureter, the ureteral action potentials in the normal dog were detd. by means of a procedure descr. in detail. It was found that in the healthy adult dog the normal ureter electro-ureterogram is usually triphasic in form. An occasional normal variant may be diphasic. Transection of the ureter below the electrode and also re-anastomosis of the transected ureter to the bladder or implantation in the bowel failed to produce significant alteration of peristaltic action potentials unless ureteral dilatation developed. In control expts. these same abnormalities associated with hydro-ureter were demonstrated in the dilated but intact ureter, indicating these changes to be non-specific and related to ureteral dilatation but unrelated to impairment of propagation of conduction in a previously transected ureter.
