THE RENAL CLEARANCE OF THIOSULFATE WITH OBSERVATIONS ON ITS VOLUME DISTRIBUTION

Abstract
Methods for the detn. of thiosulfate in blood and urine have been presented. Simultaneous detns. of the renal clearance of thiosulfate and creatinine in dogs have revealed a clearance ratio of unity. Only 70-80% of intravenously injected thiosulfate was recovered in the urine. The loss for the most part occurred during and immediately following injn. After equilibrium was complete, only slow destruction was noted. The thiosulfate which escaped destruction was distributed in the extracellular fluid. Thiosulfate may prove to be a simple and effective agent for the detn. of the rate of glomerular filtration in man.
