Head Circumference in Children With Short Stature Secondary to Primary Hypothyroidism

Abstract

There is little available information on head growth in children with hypothyroidism, whereas head size in children with isolated growth hormone deficiency, another endocrine cause of short stature, generally is below the mean.¹ In reviewing our clinical population of short, hypothyroid children, we found a tendency for relative macrocephaly in comparison to body size. The present study compares the results of head circumference and linear growth measurements in children with these two forms of endocrine disturbance. METHODS AND CASE MATERIALS The records of all children with hypothyroidism referred to the Endocrinology Clinical of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center were reviewed.
