THE PANCREAS AND THE DEPOSITION OF FAT IN THE LIVER

Abstract
A sample of a pancreatic extract ("lipocaic") reported by Dragstedt and his collaborators to be potent in depancreatized dogs exerted only the lipotropic effect in rats which was predictable from its choline and protein content. It is unlikely that an amt. of choline equivalent to the total lipotropic value (as detd. in rats) of the dose of pancreatic extract used by Dragstedt would have any effect on the liver fat of depancreatized dogs. The lipotropic effect of the pancreatic extract was approx. the same as that of a sample of dietary casein.
