EPITHELIAL SECOND MALIGNANT TUMOURS IN RETINOBLASTOMA SURVIVORS

Abstract
The 1st case of epidermoid carcinoma of the tongue found in a retinoblastoma survivor is described. The patient, a 10 yr old girl, was treated successfully for bilateral retinoblastoma 9 yr earlier. According to the literature, 2nd malignant epithelial tumors are, in contrast to mesenchymal tumors such as osteosarcoma, very rare in retinoblastoma survivors. Initially 1 eye of the patient was treated with irradiation using Stallard''s disk (radioactive Co); Stallard''s disk was unconnected with the genesis of the carcinoma of the tongue.
