Abstract
Phase transitions which occur at or lead to a specific volume larger than the minimum specific volume can be described by roots of the Laplace transform of the canonical partition function approaching real positive values of the pressure () in the limit of infinite number of particles. The formulation in the pressure ensemble has the advantage that the real values of the variables considered have the immediate physical meaning even for a finite number of particles.
