Thermal Changes of the Bovine Uterus Following Administration of Estradiol-17β

Abstract
Thermocouples were placed into the uterine serosa and saphenous artery of four dairy heifers. Injection of Estradiol-17β (3 mg) caused a 0.25 C decrease (P<.01) in the difference between uterine and aortic temperatures (Tuterus-aorta) by 2.5 hr. post injection. In contrast there was no significant change in the Tuterus-aorta after injection of saline. The Estradiol-17β induced decrease in Tuterus-aorta could have resulted from an increase in the rate of uterine blood flow. Copyright © 1974. American Society of Animal Science .
