Control of Estrus and Lambing Performance in Cycling Ewes Fed 6-Methyl-17-Acetoxyprogesterone

Abstract
Estrus was suppressed by the consistent consumption of 20 mg. or more of 6-methyl-17-acetoxyprogesterone (MAP) per day for 14 days by ewes previously experiencing normal estrous cycles. When levels of consumption were maintained at 40 to 75 mg. of MAP per head per day for 14 days, post-treatment estrus and in most cases the subsequent lambings were grouped. The group feeding of 50 or 75 mg. of MAP per ewe daily produced results similar to those obtained when ewes were individually fed.
