Abstract
Auxins, gibberellins and cytokinins, which take part in the regulation of algal growth and development, play a part also in the physical and chemical properties of cells and in respiratory exchanges, pigments and photosynthesis. They act in the different cellular metabolisms as shown by their action on qualitative and quantitative composition of enzymes, nucleic nuclear acids, sugars, lipids and proteins. Growth substances play a part in different phenomena of vegetative multiplication and sexual reproduction of algae. Because of their presence in algal cultures and in the sea water around marine vegetation, phytohormones have an ecological importance; their modalities are still to be ascertained.
