Abstract
Gastric juice of 102 patients aspirated before and at 3 consecutive 1/2 hr. periods after histamine stimulation. Histamine increased the quantity of secretion and the amt. of chlorid and free HCl conc. with a decrease of fixed base (represented dilution and not decrease in total vol. secreted). The A. found many benign achlorhydria cases with mucoid juice containing chlorides and bicarbonates which probably originated in fluid accompanying mucus secretion. Many total chlorid cone, tests were hypotonic because parietal cells secreted the chlorides either as HCl or neutral chlorides and an isotonic parietal secretion might be diluted by fluid accompanying gastric mucus. Gastro-globulin was crystallizable and had an isoelectric point at pH 3.5.
