Olympic Participation by Women

Abstract
Participation in the Olympic Games has had no harmful effect on the birth functions of women. Among the married female Olympic participants, 94% are mothers. Most of them (66%) have given birth since first participating in the Games. Pregnancy was normal in 70.4% of all cases. Mild complaints were noted in the remaining cases. After childbirth, more Olympic participants and other masters of sport have equaled or even improved on the performance achieved before pregnancy than have other first-rate athletes.
