Abstract
This paper presents a rationale for greater nursing involvement in patient education for people with schizophrenia--specifically, providing information about the illness and ways to adapt to it (psychoeducation). It includes a conceptual framework for such education within the context of the nurse-patient relationship, plus an outline of suggested content. The proposed model is within the competency of professional psychiatric nurse generalists. Keywords
