After infusion of 4-14C-cortisol, radioactivity associated with red cells amounts to 16 – 37 % of total blood radioactivity and its biological half life is similar to the half life of plasma radioactivity. Cortisol is not metabolized by erythrocytes in vitro. Our data suggest that the corticoids are adsorbed at the red cells surface.
