Comparative Effects of Tetragastrin and Histamine on Pepsin Secretion in Man

Abstract
The pepsin concentration and output in the gastric secretion were measured in nine men with duodenal ulcer, after stimulation with tetragastrin, 20 μg/kg, and histamine acid phosphate, 40 μg/kg. After histamine the pepsin secretion was higher than after tetragastrin. The ‘optimal’ dose of tetragastrin —which will cause the greatest output of pepsin—is not known. The construction of a dose-response curve for tetragastrin/pepsin may solve this problem.
