Abstract
The intensities of neutrons scattered with discrete energy changes from a sample of room-temperature methane gas have been measured to high enough energy changes to show the effects of excitation of the lowest vibrational states. A calculation which includes the effects of excitation of these lowest vibrational states agrees qualitatively but not quantitatively with the data. Keywords
