Abstract
A pronounced angular unconformity, corresponding to a time interval between the Upper Tongaporutuan and Waitotaran stages (Late Miocene to Mid Pliocene) is described. This feature is likely to be of more than local significance. Major tectonic disturbances on a regional scale are suggested for Hawkes Bay, at a time close to the end of the Miocene.
