Abstract
Both the continuous spectra and the intensities of K-characteristic lines for diagnostic and therapeutic X-ray machines (45-250 kV) have been computed using the Monte Carlo method. The results obtained have been compared with the theoretical results of Kramers (1923) and the experimental results of other workers. At low energies (<100 kV) the spectra obtained by Kramers, by the present method and by experiments are in good agreement. Spectra obtained in the present work show deviations, of the order of about 10%, from the experimental spectra at high energies. The difference between the spectra obtained by Kramers' method and the present work also increases with increase in energy. Further, change in the target angle does not appear to alter the shape of the spectrum significantly although the intensity varies by about 30% for a variation of angle of incidence from 30 to 75 degrees .Keywords
